Natural monument “Kaltenes Kalvas”

“Kaltenes Kalvas” is a unique this kind of formation in Latvia and also a protected natural monument on national significance. But what exactly is it? Those are large pile-up of stones in a forest approximately one-and-a-half-kilometres from Kaltene Beach, which the locals call Kalvas. The huge mossy stones were created thousands of years ago as the Baltic Ice Lake was receding. There are two special routes for visitors to observe the stones: the shortest one is less than 1 km long, while the other is 1,5 km long.
